PERSONAL PROJECT - "FROM GRANDPA'S HANDS"
As a commercial food photographer, I work a lot, but I still make time to create art that exists just to feed my artist's soul. Here you'll find images from personal project, "From Grandpa's Hands". The first image in the series was taken on May 3rd 2008, with my mom at my side, Grandma cutting the freshly picked apple from the picturesque family farm, and placing it lovingly in my Grandpa’s hands for me to capture.
This project clearly encompasses the “why” in my art – the connection between my family, our history of farming and sharing love through food, my grandfather’s personal history, clearly visible in the texture of his worn hands, and the sense of pride I felt in preserving and sharing those bonds.
I have continued to photograph my grandpa’s hands holding the produce he skillfully pulls from the earth each season. This harvest will be the 15th year adding to the series highlighting the best gardener I know.
